Several prominent UK companies have entered administration this week amid surging operational costs. High street favorites continue to struggle, with 1,631 businesses filing for administration in 2025, according to data from law firm Shakespeare Martineau. New additions to the list include a century-old mattress producer, a health-focused juice brand, and a commercial construction firm.

Airsprung Mattress

Bed and mattress manufacturer Airsprung has made 71 employees redundant after more than 150 years in business. Administrators from PwC state that directors had no choice but to initiate the process. They pledge to support staff through this unsettling period in the company’s history.

The firm has endured years of challenging trading conditions and recent cashflow shortages. Operating from its Trowbridge factory, Airsprung supplies beds to hotels and seating fillings for sports stadiums under the Gainsborough and Airofreem brands. Retailers such as Dunelm and Asda carry its products.

CEO and Director Tean Dallaway describes the development as “very sad and disappointing.”

Press Juice Brand

Health-oriented food and drink company Press, famous for juice cleanses, smoothies, nutritionist-designed soups, and meal plans, has fallen into administration. Its products stock shelves at major supermarkets like Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Marks & Spencer.

Marco Piacquadio and Rachel Elizabeth Ennis of FTS Recovery Limited now serve as administrators, records from Companies House confirm.

Companies House explains that administration represents a legal process under the Insolvency Act 1986. The goal focuses on rescuing viable businesses insolvent due to cashflow issues. Licensed insolvency practitioners, appointed by directors, creditors, or the court, manage the proceedings.

Calvert Construction Limited

Commercial construction contractor Calvert Construction Limited entered administration following an appointment on Friday, May 1. The London Gazette records the move, confirmed in the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts in Manchester.

Joint administrators Anthony Milnes and Mike Dillon from Leonard Curtis oversee the process.
