Sophia Bush shared an update on the long-awaited One Tree Hill reboot — and it doesn’t sound like it’s good news.

“You know, we have done such great work and it’s been really incredible to see every single person in our cast got excited about that phone call, had amazing ideas about where their characters would be, what stories they’d want to explore,” Bush, 43, told Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, March 15, at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscars viewing party in Los Angeles.

“I would say that we’re all very aware of what’s happening to media right now and who media is being bought by, and I don’t know that any of us are the current media conglomerates’ best friends or favorite people,” she continued, seemingly referring to Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. following a bidding war with Netflix.

“But I’m OK with that. I’m patient, if nothing else,” Bush said, adding, “That’s the classiest way I can say it!”

Ravens forever! One Tree Hill may have ended in 2012, but the casts’ friendships have stood the test of time. “We’ve known each other for almost two decades now. Our friendships have changed immeasurably,” Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis on the teen drama, told Us Weekly exclusively in December 2020. “We’ve been through so […]

Bush’s girlfriend, Ashlyn Harris, chimed in, “That was a long-winded way of [saying], ‘You’ll have to wait and see.’”

Variety first reported in August 2024 that a One Tree Hill sequel series was in development at Netflix, with Bush, Hilarie Burton and Danneel Ackles set to executive produce. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the original teen drama, was tapped to produce.

As well as producing, Bush and Burton were expected to reprise their respective roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer.

Bush confirmed the project in an Instagram post at the time, writing, “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

“There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where ‘everything’s better and everything’s safe,’” she continued.

One Tree Hill originally ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012 on The WB and later The CW. The cast also included Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz.

Bush previously shared an update on the development process in December 2024.

“It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early … that’s a bit of a bummer for us as we wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party,” Bush told Access Hollywood at the time. “But I will say the process is really incredible. The fans have kept that show alive and they’ve asked for it for so long, and then the studio came to us about it.”

“I think 10 years ago, I would have said, ‘Not on your life.’ Now I realize the opportunity to have not just a comfort show, but kind of a home base matters to people,” she went on. “So beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch feels really, really amazing.”
