Google has rolled out updates to Gemini for Home, removing restrictions that previously blocked cocktail recipes on smart devices like the Nest Hub. Users no longer hear responses such as “I cannot provide recipes for alcoholic beverages” when asking for a margarita.
Enhanced Safeguards for Adult Users
The changes refine safety filters, granting adults better access to everyday queries, including recipes for age-restricted drinks. Google states, “Adults will now experience improved availability for general queries, including recipes for age-gated beverages.”
If Gemini still withholds certain instructions, check Parental Controls and response filter settings in the Google Home app.
Feedback, Speed, and Personalization Boosts
Smart displays now display thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons after most voice commands, enabling quick feedback to refine Gemini’s performance.
Responses deliver faster and with greater personalization. For instance, after noting the nanny’s name as “Alice,” Gemini scans security camera footage to confirm her arrival upon request.
A new “Home Brief” command offers concise updates on home activity during absences.
Alarm settings process more rapidly, cutting delays and repeat prompts.
