Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz gear up for an intense Australian Open final, each aiming to etch their name in tennis history following grueling semifinals. At 38, Djokovic stands one victory from claiming a record 25 grand slam singles titles, while 22-year-old Alcaraz eyes becoming the youngest man to achieve a career grand slam.

Men’s Semifinal Marathon Sets Stage

Both players pushed their limits in dramatic semifinals on Friday. Alcaraz outlasted Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller lasting five hours and 27 minutes, marking the longest semifinal in tournament history. Later, Djokovic overcame defending champion Jannik Sinner in another five-set battle that stretched into the night, securing his spot as the 10-time Australian Open champion.

Djokovic opted out of practice on Saturday at the tournament site, confirming he plans to skip training ahead of the final to conserve energy.

Rybakina Claims Women’s Title in Thrilling Upset

In the women’s final, Elena Rybakina defeated top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka to capture her second grand slam title. Rybakina turned the match around in a rollercoaster final set, winning six of the last seven games to deny Sabalenka a third Australian Open crown and deliver another major final setback to the world No. 1.

Sabalenka reflected on the outcome, stating, “I had my opportunities. It feels like I missed a couple, but it’s tennis. Today you’re a loser. Tomorrow you’re a winner.”

The finals weekend promises high stakes as Djokovic and Alcaraz vie for glory in Melbourne.
