As political figures throughout New Jersey react to the demise of Joanne Chesimard, Democratic candidate for governor Mikie Sherrill has remained silent — a notable distinction to her Republican rival Jack Ciattarelli and different Democrats who’ve spoken out.

Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy stated on Friday that he spoke to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated the Cuban authorities confirmed Chesimard’s demise.

Murphy stated that he’ll “vigorously oppose any try to repatriate Chesimard’s stays to america.”

In a separate submit, Murphy slammed the Chicago Lecturers Union (CTU) submit on X honoring the “life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce author, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a frontrunner of freedom whose spirit continues to dwell in our battle.”

Murphy known as the submit “shameful and wicked.” New Jersey Republican Assemblyman Mike Inganamort stated the CTU submit “celebrates a cop killer.”

“I’ve lengthy stood with the NJ State Troopers in combating for the return of this fugitive cop killer who brutally murdered Trooper Werner Foerster greater than fifty years in the past,” wrote New Jersey Democrat Rep. Josh Gottheimer on X.

In the meantime, New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean stated Foerster “will ceaselessly be remembered for his honorable service and supreme sacrifice.”

 “With information of her demise, we honor the life Trooper Foerster lived, the braveness he confirmed, and the legacy of heroism he leaves behind,” he wrote on X.

Chesimard was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike with fellow members of the Black Liberation Military once they have been pulled over. Foerster was killed in an ensuing shootout. In 1977, Chesimard was convicted of first-degree homicide together with a number of associated expenses, together with assault and battery of a police officer, assault with a harmful weapon, assault with intent to kill, unlawful possession of a firearm, and armed theft. She was sentenced to life in jail for the 1973 homicide of Foerster.
