Sighting and Response

Officers received multiple reports of the bear near Commercial Drive and Grandview Highway. Patrol units tracked the animal to around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

“Patrol officers located the bear, and the Emergency Response Team assisted when the bear approached people nearby,” Vancouver Police stated in a social media update shared Thursday, including a short video and photo of the animal.

Relocation Details

While Vancouver Police contained the bear as it headed toward Hastings and Commercial, B.C. Conservation Officer Service personnel arrived on scene. They tranquilized the animal without incident and transported it to a safer location in North Vancouver.

No injuries occurred during the operation. “The bear slept it off and was released without charges,” police added.
