On Wednesday, March 11, police teams returned to the site to examine several locations for evidence related to the case. A police spokesman confirmed the operation focuses on gathering new clues in the ongoing investigation.

Suspect Identification and Case Escalation

In February, investigators identified a suspect known to Gus, who is not one of the child’s parents. The case has since been elevated to a major crime investigation.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke highlighted “discrepancies” and “inconsistencies” in statements from some family members. “As a result of these inconsistencies, and investigations into them, a person who resides at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their support for the police and is no longer co-operating with us,” Fielke stated.

He indicated at the time that authorities planned to revisit the property, a move they executed this week.

Investigation Focus

Investigators now believe Gus is likely deceased. Early theories that he wandered off and became disoriented have been dismissed.

Current lines of inquiry include the possibility of abduction by a stranger or involvement by someone familiar to the child. The probe centers on individuals acquainted with Gus in connection to his disappearance and suspected death.
