Manchester United prepares to offer its incoming permanent manager a significant transfer advantage this summer. Michael Carrick serves as interim manager through the current season, paving the way for a new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Carrick’s Strong Start

Carrick, a former United midfielder, secures victories in his initial two matches against Manchester City and Arsenal. Kobbie Mainoo plays a pivotal role in these triumphs, having seen limited action under previous manager Ruben Amorim. Amorim’s exit creates opportunities, including a potential return for Marcus Rashford.

The 28-year-old forward excels on loan at Barcelona, where a £30 million buy option forms part of the deal. Barcelona’s financial constraints may block activation of this clause, providing United with strategic options.

Rashford’s Transfer Prospects

United could reintegrate Rashford under fresh leadership or pursue a permanent sale while his market value peaks. Current estimates from football observatories place his worth at €59 million (£51 million), though his experience and scoring record could command a higher fee.

A sale would deliver substantial financial relief, especially as an academy graduate. Proceeds from homegrown talents register as pure profit, aiding compliance with profit and sustainability regulations. United experienced similar gains last summer from Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million move to Chelsea, alongside permanent transfers of Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood.

Potential Outgoings and Focus

Rashford might not stand alone in summer departures, with speculation growing around Bruno Fernandes. During a recent press conference, Carrick addressed queries on the Portuguese star, stating: “Let’s not get too far ahead. We are working towards this game and we are talking about the window now and it is closing in a few days. That is on the agenda a little bit but my main agenda is getting through the game with Fulham on Sunday and Bruno is fully committed. No issues at all with that. Things further down the line will be addressed towards the end of the season. Everything is positive at the moment and there is no reason to be anything otherwise.”

Carrick emphasizes the immediate fixture against Fulham, though decisions on key players likely fall to the next regime.

Linked candidates include Unai Emery, Roberto De Zerbi, and Oliver Glasner. Post-World Cup opportunities may arise for figures like Mauricio Pochettino or Carlo Ancelotti.
