The interim U.S. legal professional for the Jap District of Virginia left her publish after finishing a 120-day appointment amid a authorized standoff wherein a federal decide questioned her authority, declined to nominate a successor and triggered an attraction over separation of powers.

Lawyer Common Pam Bondi praised Halligan’s tenure as interim U.S. legal professional, saying she served with distinction and centered on prosecuting violent offenders to guard Jap Virginia’s greater than six million residents.

“Democratic Senators weaponized the blue slip course of, making it not possible for Lindsey’s time period as United States Lawyer to proceed following the expiration of her 120-day appointment,” Bondi wrote on X. “Regardless of a number of, pointless authorized obstacles positioned in her path, Lindsey stepped ahead at a crucial juncture for our Nation and fulfilled her obligations with braveness and resolve.”

“Her departure is a major loss for the Division of Justice and the communities she served,” Bondi continued. “Whereas we’ll really feel her absence keenly, we’re assured that she is going to proceed to serve her nation in different methods.”

Bondi stated the circumstances surrounding Halligan’s departure have been “deeply misguided,” including that the Justice Division would proceed in search of assessment of choices she stated, “hinder our capacity to maintain the American folks protected.”
