Who is Casey Alexander? What does Casey Alexander bring to Kansas State?

close

Casey Alexander is taking his talent to Kansas State. According to ESPN, Kansas State is expected to hire Alexander as its next men’s basketball coach.

The Belmont coach has been handpicked to replace Jerome Tang, who was fired last month toward the end of his fourth season in charge. With that in mind, let’s shine the light on the next Wildcats HC.

Who is Casey Alexander?

Casey Alexander is the current coach of the Belmont Bruins. Alexander has been coaching since 1995, starting with his alma mater.

Alexander joined the Bruins’ coaching staff and remained with the program for 16 seasons. He was part of a staff that made it to four NCAA Tournaments.

Alexander left Belmont to become the Stetson Hatters coach ahead of the 2011–12 season. He marshalled the program to a 24–36 record in two seasons before getting another offer.

That offer was to become the coach of the Lipscomb Bisons. Alexander led the Bisons for six seasons, claiming an A-Sun tournament win and the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award in his tenure.

Alexander’s prowess led Belmont to appoint him as coach following Rick Byrd’s retirement after 33 seasons. Alexander has led the Bruins to seven straight winning seasons, building his reputation as one of the most promising coaches in the Missouri Valley Conference.

What does Casey Alexander bring to Kansas State?

The Kansas State Wildcats are hiring a proven winner at the level just below the upper echelons of collegiate basketball. Alexander is 166-60 with the Belmont Bruins and has won three regular-season championships.

Of course, there’s a slight concern that the Bruins never played in the NCAA tournament while he was on the job. However, the Wildcats are a team in need of a breath of fresh air after Jerome Tang’s firing.

Alexander led teams that won 20 or more contests in each of his seven seasons. Wildcats fans will hope for a similar record when he takes charge for the 2026-27 campaign.
