A Victoria police constable faces sexual assault charges after an off-duty incident investigated by the West Shore RCMP.
Charge Details and Investigation
The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved a sexual assault charge against Const. Chris Kayiatos. Officials report the allegation surfaced when the Victoria Police Department received notification in April 2024 from a third-party agency regarding an off-duty member.
The alleged offence occurred on October 10, 2024, in the Langford area.
Suspension and Public Impact
Victoria police confirm Kayiatos has been suspended, with his duty status under ongoing review and assessment.
Victoria Police Chief Fiona Wilson emphasized the gravity of the situation: “Allegations of this nature are extremely serious for those directly affected, and they are serious for public confidence in policing. When a police officer is charged with a criminal offence, it has a broader impact on trust, on our profession and on the many members of this organization who serve our communities with integrity each and every day.”
Kayiatos’ first court appearance is set for July 30.
