Britain has caught curling fever following Team GB’s impressive performance at the Winter Olympics. The men’s final on Saturday, February 21, where Team GB fell 6-9 to Canada, attracted 5.5 million viewers—outpacing even Britain’s Got Talent and becoming the day’s top-rated program on BBC.

Celebrity Fans Demand Year-Round Coverage

Comedian Jack Whitehall, 37, captured the national excitement on X, posting: “Can we have curling all year round. I want a fantasy league, maybe some podcasts. #Addicted.”

Team GB’s Silver Medal Lineup

Captained by Scotland’s Bruce Mouat, alongside Hammy McMillan Jr., Bobby Lammie, and Grant Hardie, the British squad secured silver—just like their achievement at the Beijing Games four years prior. The narrow defeat highlighted their competitive edge against a strong Canadian team.

Bruce Mouat Eyes Future Success

Bruce Mouat, 31, emphasized the inspirational impact of their run. “If we can take anything away from this week as well as the silver medal, it is being able to inspire people hopefully to participate. That is an achievement in itself I hope,” he stated.

Mouat confirmed his commitment to the sport: “I’m 100% continuing. I love the game, I love the sport and I love my team-mates. I’m not done yet. We’ll definitely have a debrief. I’d love to play with the guys again, but we haven’t had that conversation as four individuals yet. Personally, I want to continue – and we’ll go from there.”

Coach Praises World-Class Potential

British coach Greg Drummond hailed Mouat’s rink as “the best in the world” at peak performance. “Couldn’t be more prouder of the boys. But in some respect, the game sums up the week a little bit. We’ve been very, very close to A plus the whole week. The guys have played great all week. We’ve lost to a very good team. There’s no question in that, but it’s going to sting for a little while, because the guys, when they are A plus, they are the best in the world,” Drummond said.
