To the editor: I’m completely a Democrat. Nonetheless, I’ve all the time thought of the high-speed rail undertaking to be a catastrophe that simply retains getting worse. Now I discover myself in settlement with the president (what a bitter capsule to swallow) in his resolution to drag federal funds from the undertaking (“Trump administration pulls billions in funding for high-speed rail undertaking; state leaders name resolution ‘unlawful,’ ” July 16).

Gov. Gavin Newsom ought to finish his cussed help of this debacle, the one goal of which appears to be to gin up media protection for his inevitable presidential run. As an alternative, convert the buildings for use solely by the vans shifting agriculture merchandise across the state. The Central Valley is an agriculture mecca, not the journey hall envisioned by the misguided proponents of the practice to nowhere.

To the editor: President Trump repeatedly complained that the U.S. doesn’t have stunning airports the best way many different nations do whereas his administration has raised issues about New York Metropolis’s subway system. And but, fairly than selecting up the California high-speed rail undertaking and constructing it out throughout the nation to extend the general high quality of our transportation, he’s pulled the state’s funding. China constructed a high-speed rail system that connects nearly all of its main cities. Trump would fairly preserve the funding that may very well be used for such a undertaking right here within the wealthy’s pockets with tax cuts.

He might’ve used his presidency to construct fantastic issues that everybody valued and admired, like President Theodore Roosevelt’s nationwide parks. As an alternative, he’s utilizing his energy extra like a schoolyard bully would.
