To the editor: Throughout the first World Collection sport, we applauded Canada’s advert that includes Ronald Reagan denouncing the usage of tariffs. President Trump then canceling commerce talks and including extra punitive tariffs is one more childish tantrum, and reveals our allies (if we nonetheless have any) that he’s to not be trusted in any negotiation (“Trump ends commerce talks with Canada over tariffs advert that Ontario premier now says he’ll section out,” Oct. 24). Our president has labored diligently to persuade the world that he’s incapable of working at a stage extra mature than a 6-year-old.

Ellen Butterfield and Scott Fraser, Pasadena

..

To the editor: Contemplating the present political local weather, if the Dodgers win the World Collection once more and get an invitation to the White Home due to it, absolutely they are going to face a public-relations nightmare irrespective of their determination.

However, provided that Trump not too long ago ended commerce talks with Canada, if Toronto’s Blue Jays are topped champions, will they even be provided an invite? And, if that’s the case, would they ever settle for? Even in sports activities, the world stays mired in strikes of political “strategery.”

Mitch Mild, Carpinteria

..

To the editor: I utterly agree with every thing visitor contributor Christian B. Teeter wrote about American financial overreliance on China (“The true value of America’s overreliance on commerce with China,” Oct. 26). It was clever, sane and primarily based in actual fact.

However alas, there’s an elephant within the world economic system room. From the op-ed: “The U.S. has at all times thrived in open economies ruled by truthful competitors. The suitable response to our present problem is deeper engagement with nations that share these rules — nations like Japan, Australia, England, Canada … .”

In the exact same version of the Los Angeles Instances was this headline: “Trump says he’ll impose further 10% tariff on Canada over TV advert.” When a president whose solely technique is retribution in opposition to perceived “enemies” has the authority (apparently) to throw tantrums in opposition to nations that share our rules, phrases like intelligence, sanity and truth have little bearing on our present actuality.
