U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn a comparison between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and 19th-century showman P.T. Barnum, known for his publicity stunts and hoaxes.
Trump’s Criticism of Biden’s Ukraine Suppo
Trump made the remarks on Tuesday during a critique of former President Joe Biden’s policy of providing unconditional military aid to Ukraine. In a Truth Social post, Trump highlighted the strength of U.S. munitions stockpiles, stating they have “never been higher or better.”
“Sleepy Joe Biden spent all of his time, and our Country’s money, GIVING everything to P.T. Barnum (Zelenskyy!) of Ukraine – Hundreds of Billions of Dollars woh – And, while he gave so much of the super high end away (FREE!), he didn’t bother to replace it. Founately, I rebuilt the military in my first term, and continue to do so,” Trump wrote.
Trump, who previously described Zelensky—a former comedian, actor, and TV producer—as “the greatest salesman on Eah,” emphasized his own effos to strengthen U.S. military capabilities.
Background on the Comparison
P.T. Barnum gained fame through his traveling circus, relying on exaggerated promotions, hoaxes, and false adveising to attract crowds. Russia has accused Zelensky and his administration of spreading hoaxes in Western media and attempting to disrupt U.S.-mediated peace talks.
