Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is scheduled to go to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 10 and meet with President Trump on the White Home, Tom Barrack, the U.S. envoy to Syria and U.S. ambassador to Turkey, confirmed to CBS Information on Saturday.

This might mark the first-ever go to by a Syrian president to the White Home, and the third assembly between Mr. Trump and al-Sharaa.

CBS Information has reached out to the White Home for extra particulars.

Al-Sharaa, who as soon as led an affiliate of al Qaeda and was designated as a terrorist by the U.S. in 2013, led a shock assault on Aleppo in November 2024. This led to the tip of 54 years of the Assad household’s tyrannical rule in 11 days. Leaders of the militias appointed him as president of Syria in January.

Mr. Trump met with al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia in Could, highlighting the gorgeous reversal in fortunes for the previous Islamist militant who spent years with a U.S. authorities bounty on his head. Mr. Trump known as him a “younger, engaging man, powerful man, sturdy previous,” aboard Air Pressure One following their assembly.

Their assembly got here a day after Mr. Trump introduced that his administration was lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria “to provide them an opportunity at greatness.”

In September, al-Sharaa addressed the U.N. Basic Meeting — the primary time a president from his nation had completed so in practically six a long time.

“Syria is reclaiming its rightful place among the many nations of the world,” he stated in his speech.

Civil conflict in Syria began in 2011 and ended final 12 months — a battle that pushed about half of Syria’s inhabitants out of their houses. Al-Sharaa is now going through questions over whether or not he can unify, stabilize and democratize the nation.

He informed “60 Minutes” final month that it is vital to provide folks hope for rebuilding and returning to their houses after the destruction and says he believes his nation might be rebuilt in his lifetime.

“The Syrian persons are sturdy,” al-Sharaa stated.
