Spotify Premium users in several new countries gain access to the popular AI DJ feature starting today. The expansion includes Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Brazil, and South Korea, addressing long-standing requests from subscribers worldwide.
New Markets and Languages
The AI DJ now supports French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, allowing users to interact in their native languages. This update makes the feature more accessible and personalized for diverse audiences.
Slow but Steady Rollout
Launched in early 2023 for Premium subscribers in the US and Canada, AI DJ later expanded to the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and select regions in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Major markets like France and Germany previously lacked availability, prompting user frustrations on social platforms.
One user shared: “I got a notification saying the DJ was there… so I clicked on it, and it said it wasn’t available in my country.”
Spotify’s Development Insights
Spotify emphasizes creating an authentic experience. The company states: “To build DJ, we want it to feel like a native experience. So, we went through over 100 auditions, selecting voice talent that felt authentic to each market. From there, the team worked with local teams to help shape each DJ’s personality — making sure the tone, warmth, and cultural nuance felt genuinely local, not just translated.”
Future enhancements focus on listener feedback to boost interactivity.
