In his personal remarks on the Senate ground, Senate Minority Chief Chuck Schumer criticized the president as People brace for a spike in medical insurance premiums and the federal government stays closed.

“We’re staring into the abyss of the well being care disaster right here in America, and what’s Donald Trump doing as we stare into the abyss of the well being care disaster?” Schumer stated. “He is flying off but once more to a different nook of the world whereas individuals’s premiums are set to skyrocket right here at house.”

The New York Democrat accused Mr. Trump of “bulldozing” the East Wing of the White Home and searching for a $230 million settlement from the Justice Division for claims stemming from earlier federal investigations into him.

“We’re in the course of a well being care disaster that can decimate tens of thousands and thousands of People,” Schumer stated. “However Donald Trump does not appear to need to contact the subject with a 10-foot pole and has determined to fly off to a different nation but once more with out negotiating with Democrats.”

The president is ready to go away Friday for a visit to Asia, the place he stated he’ll make stops in Malaysia, Japan and South Korea.

“It is arduous to fathom somebody extra out of contact and oblivious to our nation’s struggles than the present president,” Schumer stated.

The Senate minority chief accused the president of utilizing the presidency to counterpoint himself, pointing to the claims introduced in opposition to the Justice Division.

“Whereas People are agonizing over their well being care, Donald Trump is utilizing the presidency to achieve into the taxpayers’ until and put cash in his personal pocket,” he stated.

Whereas Republicans are blaming Democrats for the shutdown, Democrats are pointing to Republicans as accountable.

“The shutdown is on Donald Trump’s again, and the American individuals realize it,” Schumer stated. “They know that Republicans have the presidency, the Home and the Senate, and the shutdown is on them.”

Schumer known as Sen. Ron Johnson’s invoice to pay important employees a “ruse,” and stated Democrats “won’t give Donald Trump a license to play politics with individuals’s livelihoods.”

“It does not finish the ache of the shutdown. It extends it,” he stated. “The one option to pay each federal employee is for Republicans to get critical, sit down with Democrats, avert their well being care disaster and reopen the federal government.”
