Queen Elizabeth II maintained a remarkably close relationship with her daughter-in-law, Sarah Ferguson, fostering a bond that photographs and personal accounts clearly illustrate.

A Motherly Connection

Sarah Ferguson, now 66, described the late monarch as a greater maternal figure than her own mother. “The thing about the Queen was that she was more my mother than my own mother. The Queen was an iconic, legendary, stalwart, steadfast, invisible hand of love behind your back,” Ferguson stated during a 2024 appearance on The Jess Row Big Talk Show.

Ferguson has often praised the Queen’s profound influence on her life. “The Queen was obviously the biggest influence; it was the privilege of my life to have her as my mother-in-law. She was the most extraordinary example of duty, loyalty and steadfastness both as head of state and as a private individual,” she shared in an interview.

This enduring connection persisted even after Ferguson’s divorce from Prince Andrew.

Final Moments at Balmoral

In the Queen’s final days at her Balmoral residence, she shared poignant last words with Ferguson. “Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough,” the monarch told her. Ferguson reflected, “She knew me all my life and she loved me,” affectionately calling her “mumma,” as recounted to The Times.

The Queen’s Beloved Corgis

A clear sign of the Queen’s affection came when she entrusted her cherished corgis, Muick and Sandy, to Ferguson’s care. Ferguson cherishes walks with the dogs, fondly recalling shared strolls with the Queen. “I really love when I’m with them [the corgis]. Actually, I really think about HM [Her Majesty], and I just think about the value system she supported in this country and how the nation mourns her,” she noted on the podcast.
