Russia to ship a NASA astronaut and a pair of cosmonauts to the ISS on Thanksgiving morning

A trio of astronauts and cosmonauts will have a good time Thanksgiving by heading to the Worldwide Area Station.

NASA astronaut Chris Williams and cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev will journey to the ISS to hitch the Expedition 73 crew. They raise off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Thursday at 4:27 a.m. ET aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft.

The launch and docking with the ISS might be streamed stay on NASA+ and the area company’s YouTube channel.

The journey to the ISS will take about three hours and two orbits. The Soyuz spacecraft will then robotically dock with the station at roughly 7:38 a.m. ET, adopted by the hatch opening.

The trio might be becoming a member of NASA astronauts Mike Fincke, Zena Cardman and Jonny Kim, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Company) astronaut Kimiya Yui and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubritsky and Oleg Platonov, who’re at the moment working and residing aboard the ISS.

Williams and his cosmonaut teammates will spend about eight months aboard the ISS as members of ISS Expeditions 73 and 74. This might be Williams’ and Mikaev’s first spaceflight and Kud-Sverchkov’s second.

NASA says Williams might be conducting scientific analysis and expertise demonstrations throughout his time on the station. Among the experiments will embody putting in and testing a brand new modular exercise system for long-duration missions, bettering cryogenic gasoline effectivity and rising semiconductor crystals in area. Williams can even assist NASA develop new re-entry security protocols for future missions.

Nov. 2 marked the twenty fifth anniversary of steady human habitation aboard the ISS.
