To the editor: The horror of the brutal slaying of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner of their Brentwood house was dangerous sufficient. What the president, the person who is meant to be our ethical chief, mentioned made it worse (“Rob Reiner’s tragic slaying and Trump’s terrible response,” Dec. 15).

President Trump informed us that Rob Reiner was a “deranged particular person” who had “pushed individuals loopy” and mentioned his loss of life was brought on by “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

When later requested about his feedback by a member of the media, he doubled down as he at all times does. Fortunately, even many Republicans acknowledged that what the president mentioned this time went past the pale, providing uncommon criticism of him for it.

The president may have dealt with the scenario correctly in one in all two methods. He may have remained silent, recognizing that he needn’t touch upon each notable occasion that’s not associated to his place. Or he may have mentioned one thing to the impact of, “It’s well-known that Rob Reiner and I had our variations. He was a harsh critic of mine. Nonetheless, I used to be saddened to study of his and his spouse’s tragic deaths. I supply my condolences to those that liked them.”

Both of those paths would, after all, have required a degree of restraint and fundamental human decency, traits seemingly nowhere to be present in our elected chief. This president delights in having made the extraordinary grief felt by the Reiner household much more intense.

Oren Spiegler, Peters Township, Pa.

To the editor: Somebody please assist me perceive what occurred to us. When did so many people develop into hated by our president? I’ve lived for greater than 70 years and have seen many presidents, some I’ve preferred and a few I haven’t. I’ve agreed with some and disagreed with some. However, till now, I at all times felt the president liked America and liked and revered all Individuals.

Trump’s feedback in regards to the loss of life of Reiner made my blood boil. It takes a small man to be this unsympathetic.

It clearly reveals that Trump solely loves his personal supporters. Is it an excessive amount of to ask that, if you disagree with somebody, do it respectfully?

I’ll attempt to be higher. I hope our leaders will share the identical resolve.

Roger Scheuer, Lengthy Seaside

..

To the editor: Resurrecting his title because the Iago of our time, Trump continues to go away no stone of sludge unturned together with his feedback on the passing of Reiner. As soon as once more, I’m reminded of why I didn’t, couldn’t, vote for such an individual. He stays beneath contempt.

Edward M. Bialack, Woodland Hills

..

To the editor: I’ll very proudly seek advice from myself as “deranged” any further. Thanks rather a lot for reminding me, Mr. President.

Doug Stokes, Duarte
