The band relinquishes control of all master recordings, which they have held with the label since the 1991 release of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Deal Background and Financing
This transaction follows a prior agreement where the band sold publishing rights to Hipgnosis, now known as Recognition Music Group, for about $140 million (£102 million). The latest deal receives funding through a joint venture between Warner Music Group and investment firm Bain Capital, which established a $1.2 billion (£880 million) fund last year to purchase prominent music catalogs.
The Chili Peppers’ catalog generates approximately $26 million (£19 million) annually, with rights previously managed directly by the band members.

The band’s most recent studio albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, both launched in 2022, achieved strong commercial performance. Each reached the top three on the US and UK albums charts.
