Prince William’s deliberate scheduling during Prince Harry’s recent UK visit underscores a deepening divide, with experts suggesting it indicates no path to reconciliation within the royal family.

Harry’s UK Appearance and William’s Engagements

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, returned to Britain for five days last week to testify in a high-profile legal battle against a major newspaper publisher. While Harry focused on his court obligations in London, Prince William, the heir to the throne, conducted official duties in Scotland and Bristol, maintaining a considerable distance from the capital.

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe described this as a calculated decision, emphasizing that such arrangements were unlikely to be accidental. He noted that legal proceedings often face unpredictable start times, yet William positioned himself far from potential encounter points like Windsor.

“Court cases notoriously never start when they’re going to, so it wasn’t a set-in-stone date for this trial,” Larcombe stated. “But it seems to be more than just a coincidence that William had taken himself out of the country, ensuring he was nowhere near Windsor, or where Harry might be. It wasn’t the first time he was out of town when Harry had a court hearing.”

A History of Estrangement

The brothers’ last public appearance together occurred in August 2024 at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes. Observers described the interaction as notably cold, with no conversation exchanged between them.

Larcombe reflected on their past dynamic, highlighting how the siblings once complemented each other seamlessly during joint events. “They used to bounce off each other – they were absolutely great together,” he added. “They didn’t come across as rivals; they came across as two brothers that enjoyed a lot of banter.”

This ongoing separation in both geography and public roles points to a rift that shows little sign of mending, as the royal family navigates its commitments amid personal tensions.
