Kinetic Games, the developer behind Phasmophobia, unveiled its 2026 roadmap, outlining four seasonal events, two reworked maps, one new location, and several major updates. These include a player character overhaul, a Unity 6 upgrade, a Nintendo Switch 2 release, and the long-awaited 1.0 version. The rollout begins soon, with the player character overhaul scheduled for March.

Player Character Overhaul and 1.0 Release

The player character overhaul introduces free cosmetics, updated models, and refined animations. Ghost hunters prepare for enhanced spooks ahead of the 1.0 launch, which arrives simultaneously on all platforms this year. This milestone incorporates elements from the previously planned Horror 2.0 update and promises numerous surprises.

Map Reworks and New Location

Following recent farmhouse updates, Willow Street and Tanglewood receive overhauls next. Tanglewood maintains a similar layout with added interactions, minor changes, and additional features. Willow Street sees more extensive modifications. A hidden mystery awaits discovery at 6 Tanglewood Drive.

The new map remains under wraps, but Kinetic Games hints at its integration alongside returning seasonal events and a unique one-time event later in 2026.

Developer Insights and Future Vision

Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games and director of Phasmophobia, expressed enthusiasm for the year ahead. “This year marks a significant milestone for Phasmophobia, with the 1.0 launch standing as one of the biggest moments since the game’s debut,” Knight stated. “The team focuses on delivering an immersive experience for ghost hunters. Updates like Chronicle and the upcoming player character overhaul advance this goal, aiming to recapture the excitement of the 2020 launch.”

Kinetic Games anticipates 2026 as one of the most pivotal years in the game’s history, leading to its full release. Players can look forward to more immersive animations, such as visible character actions when activating the EMF Reader, opening doors, and handling equipment in this early access ghost-hunting title.
