Paula Badosa withdraws from French Open qualifying
In the backdrop of her recent form, Paula Badosa has decided to withdraw from the French Open qualifying. As she sits out of the Top 30 ranking and hasn’t received a wild card for the prestigious Grand Slam event, she was supposed to play three qualifiers to earn a spot in the main draw.
She kicked off her clay season on a promising note, reaching the Round of 16 at the Charleston Open, but her campaign fell apart. Following her heartbreak exit in Madrid, Badosa admitted that she is “battling” her own mind.
“In Madrid, what happened was that I was spending so much energy battling my own mind, I’ve worn myself out so much these past few months, that in the third set my mind completely shut down. I was totally empty. Right after that, I had a conversation with my team; it was quite interesting,” the 2025 Australian Open semifinalist said on El Camino de Mario, via AS.
She expressed the need to stop and recharge her batteries as she currently feels exhausted. The 2021 Indian Wells champion has decided to take a break with hopes of returning someday and orchestrating her comeback story.
“I think I need some time to stop, to see what’s going on here. To recharge a bit because I’m someone who loves to come back and fight, but I’m reaching a point where I’m getting exhausted. We’ve decided to stop. We don’t know if it will be two, three, or four weeks. It’s only been two days and I’m already asking to train (laughs), but I don’t think it’s very healthy for me to do that. So I’m going to take a little break,” Paula Badosa added.
Badosa could still compete at Roland Garros if four players withdraw and she enters it directly.
