Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted a throwback photo carousel of him and Travis Kelce on Instagram.

The tight end is a three-time Super Bowl champion, four-time first-team All-Pro and an 11-time Pro Bowler. Meanwhile, Mahomes has been his quarterback for each of his championship runs in Kansas City.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Kelce is expected to return to the Chiefs for the 2026 season. Mahomes posted the throwback photos on the same day, captioning it with “⏰🏹”

Rapoport elaborated on Kelce’s decision.

“He is going to turn down more money to stay in Kansas City, to be loyal, to be with Patrick Mahomes and continue to have another shot at the Super Bowl,” Rapoport said on NFL Network.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that the deal will likely be a one-year contract, while The Athletic’s Dianna Russini added it could be worth up to $15 million. Kelce entered free agency for the first time in his career, with reports indicating that his representatives held talks with multiple teams before a decision was made.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach spoke about the uncertainty surrounding Travis Kelce’s future at the NFL scouting combine. He made it clear that the organization was preparing for both outcomes.

“Travis is the best, he’s an icon and, hopefully, he comes back and we’ll just let that process play out,” Veach said to reporters on Feb. 24.

Kelce’s on-field production was steady through Kansas City’s disappointing 2025 campaign. He posted 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Chiefs in all three categories. Kelce also became the third tight end in NFL history to surpass 13,000 receiving yards, reaching the mark faster than Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in December as Kansas City’s playoff hopes faded. The franchise will count on their partnership to drive a turnaround from the worst season of the Mahomes era.
