Team India star Tilak Varma made a funny remark on batting after Ishan Kishan in the T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa. The Men in Blue won the game by 30 runs on Wednesday, February 4.

Tilak Varma walked in at number three after India won the toss and decided to bat first. Looking at the way Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma began, he remarked that he also backed himself to go and play the big shots.

“The way Ishan was batting, I have seen him, the way Abhishek was batting, I was also like Main bhi maarunga jaake (I will also go hit),” he said in a video shared by the BCCI post the game.

True to his words, the left-hander played a fiery knock, scoring a blistering 45 off just 19 balls. His knock included three boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 236.84.

India put up a gigantic total of 240/6. Ishan Kishan smashed a 20-ball 53 while Abhishek made 24 off 18 before both batters were retired out. Suryakumar Yadav (30 off 16), Axar Patel (35* off 23), and Hardik Pandya (30 off 10) also played quickfire knocks.

Tilak Varma on his return and playing T20 World Cup 2026 for India

Having suffered an abdominal injury, Tilak Varma missed the home T20I series against New Zealand. He had been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The star batter recovered successfully and returned to action in India’s first warm-up match against the USA, where he scored a 24-ball 38.

Talking about his return, Tilak thanked the CoE and the BCCI. He also spoke about playing in the T20 World Cup 2026 and his experience in the warm-up game.

“To be honest, I did not expect this early that I will be back on the field. Really thankful for CoE and BCCI. I always say that World Cup is my biggest dream to play. The way I entered the rope, everyone was shouting Tilak Tilak, I did not expect that. I really felt nice and it boost me when I was going in,” he said.

Tilak was included in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. Having recovered and back on the field, he is expected to start in the XI right from the first game.
