The Chicago Bears released a statement on Thursday, reaffirming their decision to pursue a stadium project in Hammond, Indiana, near Wolf Lake.

“The passage of SB 27 would mark the most meaningful step forward in our stadium planning efforts to date,” the Bears said. “We are committed to finishing the remaining site-specific necessary due diligence to support our vision to build a world-class stadium near the Wolf Lake area in Hammond, Indiana.

The franchise also thanked those who made it possible.

“We appreciate the leadership shown by Governor Braun, Speaker Huston, Senator Mishler and members of the Indiana General Assembly in establishing this critical framework and path forward to deliver a premier venue for all of Chicagoland and a destination for Bears fans and visitors from across the globe,” the Bears said.

“Disgracful stuff from the greedy bears ownership. No respect for tradition,” one fan wrote.

“Every publicly funded stadium going forward needs to DEMAND a minimum anount of Home Games in lieu of NFL sending so many games overseas,” another fan wrote.

“Hammond is like a 27 min drive from Soldier Field btw,” a fan tweeted.

“NFL team releasing a statement on Notes app in the big 2026,” one fan said.

“No different than the New Jersey Giants/Jets / Santa Clara 49ers / Arlington Cowboys / Orchard Park Bills etc. Half the teams in the league aren’t located in the town the teams named for. Does it even matter?” another fan said.

Details bout the Chicago Bears’ stadium project

Indiana’s Senate Bill 27 is advancing as part of a plan to build a stadium near Wolf Lake in Hammond, Indiana. It would create the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, empowered to issue bonds, acquire land and finance the construction the proposed world-class venue intended to serve Indiana and Chicago fans.

The Bears would invest roughly $2 billion into the project and negotiate a long-term lease under the framework. New local taxes on food, hotels and admissions are expected to help pay infrastructure and bond costs. The legislation passed the committee unanimously and moves to a full House vote before the session ends.
