Drone Incursion and Crash Details

One of the drones crashed at an oil depot in Rēzekne, a city in eastern Latvia, without igniting a fire. Authorities launched an urgent investigation to determine the origin of the flights. Possibilities include a deliberate hostile action by Russia or Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles that veered off course due to electronic warfare disruptions while targeting sites in Russian territory.

Public Alerts and Safety Measures

Airspace threat alerts and mobile notifications reached residents in the Ludza and Balvi districts of the Latgale region at 4:09 a.m. and 4:43 a.m. local time. Officials instructed people to shelter indoors immediately.

Schools in Rēzekne and the Rēzekne and Ludza districts closed for the day, while students in Balvi shifted to remote learning to ensure safety.

This incident underscores ongoing regional security challenges, with further updates expected as investigations continue.
