Nancy Guthrie Missing: Authorities Seek Surveillance Footage
Investigators urge residents within a three-kilometer radius of Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home to submit any surveillance footage capturing suspicious vehicles or individuals since early January. The 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie vanished on February 1, and officials express grave concerns for her health due to required medications.
Federal and local teams conduct door-to-door inquiries in neighborhoods surrounding Guthrie’s residence and her daughter Annie’s nearby home, which she visited hours before disappearing. Authorities recovered several evidence items, including a pair of gloves, for analysis.
Suspect Description and Reward Increase
The FBI now identifies a person captured on doorbell footage as a suspect: a male approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 with an average build, wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. Images of the backpack from various angles accompany the description, released via an X post.
“We hope this updated description will help concentrate the public tips we are receiving,” the FBI states, following thousands of submissions. FBI Phoenix raised the reward to $100,000 for information leading to her location.
Doorbell Footage Reveals Key Details
Footage from Guthrie’s doorbell camera shows a masked individual, appearing armed, tampering with the device on the morning of her disappearance. Blood evidence appeared at the entryway, prompting a temporary tent setup there during recent searches.
Authorities confirm Guthrie was taken against her will. Searches extend to desert terrain near her home, with agents combing rocks, vegetation, and brush amid high temperatures.
Neighbor Accounts and Family Response
A neighbor of Annie Guthrie, Ann Adams, describes FBI agents asking about activity on January 31 and February 1, plus any unusual camera footage since. “They were just asking some general questions, wondering if there was anything, any information we could shed on the Nancy Guthrie issue,” Adams recounts. Investigators exited Annie’s home carrying bags and collected roadside mail.
Savannah Guthrie shared a vintage home video of her mother on Instagram, captioning it: “We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope.” She and her siblings express readiness to pay a ransom, though the authenticity of received notes remains unverified.
