A day after she was fired from her job as a U.S. lawyer, Maurene Comey — the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey — urged her colleagues to not let concern of retribution “seep into” their selections and to combat again towards “abuses of energy.”

“Each particular person fortunate sufficient to work on this workplace continuously hears 4 phrases to explain our ethos: With out Concern or Favor. Do the proper factor, the proper manner, for the proper causes with out concern of retribution and with out favor to the highly effective,” she wrote in a memo Thursday to her colleagues.

A supply aware of the matter informed NBC Information on Wednesday that the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace for the Southern District of New York cited Article II of the Structure, which establishes the manager energy of the president.

In her memo, Comey talked about how “concern was by no means actually conceivable” throughout her almost ten-year tenure for the Southern District of New York.

“We don’t concern dangerous press; we have now the posh of remarkable safety holding us bodily secure; and, as long as we did our work with integrity, we’d get to maintain serving the general public on this workplace,” she wrote. “Our focus was actually on performing ‘with out favor.’ That’s, ensuring individuals with entry, cash, and energy weren’t handled otherwise than anybody else; and ensuring this workplace remained separate from politics and targeted solely on the information and the legislation.”

However, Comey mentioned, they’re now in a “new part the place ‘with out concern’ would be the problem.”

“If a profession prosecutor will be fired with out motive, concern could seep into the choices of those that stay. Don’t let that occur,” the memo learn. “Concern is the device of a tyrant, wielded to suppress unbiased thought. As a substitute of concern, let this second gas the hearth that already burns on the coronary heart of this place. A fireplace of righteous indignation at abuses of energy. Of dedication to hunt justice for victims. Of dedication to fact above all else.”

Her father, James Comey, has for years been in a public feud with Trump. James Comey was one of many key figures in launching a probe of Russia’s involvement within the 2016 presidential election.
