María Corina Machado, the chief of Venezuela’s opposition get together, stated interim president Delcy Rodríguez was “one of many important architects” of Nicolás Maduro’s oppressive regime in Venezuela.

Rodríguez, Maduro’s vice chairman, was sworn in because the interim president on Monday after Maduro was captured and brought to america. The Venezuelan army has expressed their assist for Rodríguez, 56. 

Machado, who has been in hiding since Venezuela’s disputed 2024 election, rising solely to declare the Nobel Peace Prize in December, criticized those that consider Rodríguez ought to lead the nation. She described Rodríguez as one of many architects of Maduro’s brutal regime, and the chief of torture websites in Venezuela. Former hostage negotiator Roger Carstens advised “60 Minutes” that the Maduro regime had held and tortured People who had been arrested in Venezuela for minor offenses.

Rodríguez was sanctioned throughout Mr. Trump’s first time period for her position in serving to the Maduro regime “keep energy and solidify his authoritarian rule.” She has not been indicted on any legal costs within the U.S. for her position in Maduro’s authorities. 

Machado stated that she believes the U.S. has “instructed (Rodríguez) to take sure actions relating to additional dismantling of the legal construction as a path in the direction of an entire transition to democracy in Venezuela.” However Machado stated “no person trusts her,” which can complicate her new position because the nation’s president. 

Machado alleged that Rodríguez had been “the principle hyperlink” in communications with Russia and Iran in addition to “different nations which have … legal actions” in Venezuela. Regardless of the tumultuous circumstances, Machado stated she nonetheless has religion within the Venezuelan folks.
