A senior producer from the Kyle & Jackie O Show has spoken out following the program’s sudden cancellation on Tuesday night.
Producer’s Emotional Statement
Jaimee ‘Mayo’ Blazquez, who served as a producer and part-time presenter on the KIIS FM breakfast show since 2018, posted a poignant message on social media Thursday. Accompanying the statement were previously unseen photos capturing joyful moments with hosts Kyle Sandilands, 54, and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, 51.
“I don’t really know what to post or what to say. I’m absolutely gutted about what’s happened,” Blazquez began. “I had always dreamt of working on this show, so having had the opportunity to produce for Kyle & Jackie O for the past 9 years has been an absolute privilege.”
She emphasized the familial bond within the team, adding, “We weren’t just a show but we were a family, so to see it end like this is heartbreaking.”
Cherished Memories
Blazquez urged fans to focus on the positive legacy, stating, “While everyone likes to give their two cents about what’s happened, let’s just remember the legacy KJ have left and how many people they’ve inspired.”
She shared images from a team trip to France that coincided with Sandilands’ honeymoon, noting, “These are some of the memories I’ll hold forever. Thanks KJ for everything, hope to work with you guys again in the future!”
Background on the Collapse
The show’s demise stems from a public feud between Henderson and Sandilands. ARN terminated Henderson’s $100 million contract after she informed executives she could no longer work with Sandilands following his on-air criticism on February 20, which left her in tears.
Sandilands faces a 14-day suspension to address the breach of his services agreement with Quasar Media, or risk termination. The KIIS breakfast slot went off-air immediately, with interim hosts in place. ARN has proposed an alternative program for Henderson.
Henderson has been absent since February 20, when Sandilands accused her of lacking focus.
Industry Expert’s Prediction
Christian Hull, a former national digital producer for Southern Cross Austereo who has collaborated with talents like Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, offered a grim outlook on TikTok. “For those wondering if The Kyle & Jackie O Show is just doing a publicity stunt, I can pretty much guarantee that this is the end of the show,” Hull declared. “The show is over, it’s done. I don’t think you’ll ever see Kyle and Jackie in a room talking to each other again.”
