The 2026 Beating Retreat ceremony marked a grand finale to India’s Republic Day celebrations, featuring spectacular musical performances and special tributes to Operation Sindoor. The event showcased the combined musical prowess of India’s armed forces and paramilitary units at the iconic Vijay Chowk.

Special Performances and Notable Features

President Droupadi Murmu presided over the ceremony, accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, and other distinguished guests including military chiefs. The event featured innovative elements such as illuminated performer attire and digital LED panels on instruments, creating a mesmerizing visual display.

A highlight of the evening was the special formations by band members depicting Operation Sindoor and paying tribute to the recently decommissioned MiG-21 fighters. Adding to the cultural significance, all spectator seating areas were uniquely named after traditional Indian musical instruments like the sitar, tabla, and veena.

Musical Highlights and Performances

Squadron Leader Lamapokpam Roopchand Singh conducted the ceremony, which began with the stirring “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja” performed by the Massed Band. The evening progressed through a carefully curated selection of patriotic and martial tunes.

Service-wise Performances:

  • The Air Force band performed “Brave Warrior,” “Twilight,” “Alert,” and “Flying Star”
  • Naval musicians presented “Namaste,” “Sagar Pawan,” “Matrubhoomi,” and “Tejasvi”
  • Army bands played “Vijayi Bharat,” “Aarambh Hai Prachand Hai,” and “Sugamya Bharat”
  • Central Armed Police Forces contributed with “Vijay Bharat,” “Hathrohi,” and the popular “Jai Ho”

Grand Finale

The ceremony concluded with the traditional lowering of the national flag and the playing of the National Anthem. The evening culminated in a breathtaking illumination of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, and Parliament buildings, with the timeless “Saare Jahan Se Achha” serving as the final musical piece.

This year’s ceremony successfully blended military precision with cultural heritage, creating a memorable celebration of India’s rich musical and martial traditions while honoring contemporary military achievements through Operation Sindoor tributes.
