Step-by-step on how to access the Observatory in Subnautica 2Repair the Alien TurbineRestore power to Alien TurbineScan the Rosetta StoneOpen the Observatory in Subnautica 2

The entire storyline, or at least the second half of the game, builds towards you gaining access to the Observatory in Subnautica 2. As far as we know, this is the end of things for the early access stage. Of course, getting this far will take considerable time, resources, and effort, so if you’re just starting, you have a long way to go.

Before we get into the end-game content, you will first need to unlock the Axum Vision. It lets you interact with the alien technology that can be found underwater. Without it, the final mission/quest will not be accessible. With that out of the way, here’s how to open the Observatory in Subnautica 2 and decode the mysteries that lie within.

If you want to solve things on your own and have a more engaging experience, here are merely the steps required to access the Observatory in Subnautica 2:

  • Unlock Axum Vision.
  • Go to the Lower Control Room and interact with it.
  • Go to the Upper Control Room and solve the puzzle.
  • Go out and scan the Alien Turbine.
  • Collect resources to repair it.
  • Make repairs and head back to the Lower Control Room and interact with it.
  • Go back to the Upper Control Room and activate the Alien Turbine.
  • Go interact with the Rosetta Stone.
  • Head to the Observatory and enter by interacting with the Axum Gate.

Step-by-step on how to access the Observatory in Subnautica 2

Repair the Alien Turbine

To repair the Alien Turbine, you’ll first need to head to the Lower Control Room, aka the Axum Control Center, located at roughly 370 meters. To find it, swim above the Mother Angel Comb and look up. There will be green hues scattered throughout the water; use this as an indicator.

You’ll need to enter this room and interact with the main controls to lower the Alien Turbine. Next, exit the room, get into your Tadpole, and ascend to the Upper Control Room, located directly vertically above the Lower Control Room.

Once inside, activate all the switches on all three panels until they turn green. You will then need to solve a small puzzle, which involves bringing each shape to the yellow notch to activate it. Unfortunately, with seawater rusting everything, it would seem that the Alien Turbine is out of order. Here’s where your trip to the Observatory in Subnautica 2 is cut short, unless you can repair it.

To that end, you’ll need to swim out of the Upper Control Room and go towards the Alien Turbine that’s located right outside. Scan it to obtain a new Data-Bank entry, alongside a note with regards to the resources needed to fix it. This is where the hard part comes in: resource gathering.

To repair the Alien Turbine, you will need Titanium Ingot (x10), Strontium (x10), and Mangalloy Ingot (x10). Goes without saying that getting the resources you need for this heculean task is going to take a while. Be prepared to make multiple trips to resource nodes. Once you have everything you need, head back to the Alien Turbine and repair it. With that, you’re one step closer to accessing the Observatory in Subnautica 2.

Restore power to Alien Turbine

Once the Alien Turbine has been repaired and is in working condition again, head down to the Lower Control Room and reactivate the machinery. You’ll get a message stating that hot water is once flowing into the turbine and is ready to be activated. Swim to the Upper Control Room, interact with the panels on the left and right before pushing the button on the controls in the center.

Scan the Rosetta Stone

With the Alien Turbine now activated, the entire structure has come to life. The once dark abyss now has light, and if nothing else, visibility has improved greatly. After you take in the scenery and enjoy some transcendental music, you’ll need to make an arduous journey to the Alien Ruins, where you first encounter the Rosetta Stone. Scan it to progress and gain entry to the Observatory in Subnautica 2

Once everything is done, head to these coordinates to enter the Observatory in Subnautica 2: -232953, 429348, -11672. Go through the entrance and interact with the Axum Door to open the final chamber. It goes without saying that if you’ve made it this far, congratulations; this is the end of the game in early access.

Inside, you’ll be able to scan the Orrery, which will reveal more lore, and hopefully get you excited for what’s to come. It turns out the World Tree (which is a Leviathan) is hiding secrets of its own that you’ll soon be able to uncover. There are a lot of cool bits of the story hidden in the Observatory in Subnautica 2, which makes all the effort worthwhile.
