MOSCOW — A strong 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck early Saturday close to the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka area, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake’s epicenter was 111.7 kilometers (69.3 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and had a depth of 39 kms, in line with the USGS.

There have been no speedy studies of accidents of main damages.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning System briefly mentioned there was a risk of a doable tsunami from the earthquake however then modified it to no tsunami risk or warning on its web site.

Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula was hit by 5 highly effective quakes — the biggest with a magnitude of seven.4 — on July 20, 2025.
