Unexpected Discovery in Abandoned Mine

Urban explorers navigating the depths of Middleton Mine in the Derbyshire Dales uncovered a startling sight: an abandoned film set buried underground. The duo, who wish to remain anonymous, described the find as utterly astonishing during their routine investigation.

The site features a classic blue and white American-style coach, a raised platform, a vehicle hoist, a touring caravan, and detailed lighting plans. Explorers believe this setup supported filming for the 2025 Marvel blockbuster The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Production insiders confirmed these details to the pair.

Explorers’ Account of the Eerie Find

One explorer shared their experience: “I usually seek out intriguing artifacts, but discovering a full film set is unprecedented.” They recounted the moment of discovery: “We advanced with our torches illuminating the path when we entered a constructed zone with an old American bus parked prominently. Lighting rigs stood on scaffolding nearby, accompanied by a blueprint outlining light placements.”

The setup included an elevator car positioned oddly in the roadway and a stage facing the bus. Machinery for assembly dotted the area, along with a cabin equipped with a microwave and kettle. Pipes ensured clean air circulation, addressing potential radon gas hazards in the mine. The explorer added: “It was surreal to encounter an elevator car in the middle of a road and a stage before the bus. All sorts of setup equipment was present, plus measures against radon. This film set exceeded our expectations entirely. I understand it also hosted shoots for Lord of the Rings and Mission: Impossible.”

Details on The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Pedro Pascal stars as Mister Fantastic in this 2025 release, which grossed $521.9 million at the box office and garnered strong fan support. Set in the 1960s, the story follows Mister Fantastic and his family as they balance superhero responsibilities with personal life, confronting the interstellar villain Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.

The ensemble cast includes Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic’s empowered partner; Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. This iteration represents Marvel’s third live-action effort to adapt the superhero family, succeeding earlier versions from 2005 and 2007, plus a 2015 reboot.

Disney has not issued a statement regarding the reported site.
