A hearth has broke out on the usNew Orleans vessel off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, leaving two sailors with minor accidents

WASHINGTON — A hearth broke out Wednesday on the USS New Orleans warship off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, leaving two sailors with minor accidents.

The fireplace on the amphibious transport dock ship has been extinguished and its trigger is below investigation, the U.S. Navy’s seventh Fleet mentioned in a press release.

The fireplace on the 684-foot-long vessel lasted virtually 12 hours, igniting as the usNew Orleans was in water close to White Seashore Naval Facility in Okinawa.

Sailors on the ship bought assist preventing the fireplace from the crew of the usSan Diego, one other warships that transports troops and plane, in addition to the Japanese coast guard and army.

The Navy mentioned its crew will keep aboard the ship. The united statesNew Orleans, which was commissioned in 2007, can maintain as much as 800 folks.

It comes after one other fireplace that burned for 5 days on the USS Bonhomme Richard in San Diego in July 2020. A sailor was charged and later acquitted of beginning it.

A Navy report concluded that there have been sweeping failures by commanders, crew members and others concerned. The ship was left with in depth structural, electrical and mechanical harm and was later scrapped.
