TV executives view Emma Willis as the key to revitalizing Strictly Come Dancing, following her successful auditions for the highly sought-after hosting role. An announcement on the new hosts replacing Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly appears imminent after months of intense speculation.

Emma Willis Emerges as Top Choice

A producer who collaborated with Emma Willis, 50, on a reality series praises her unique on-screen presence. “If anyone can turn things around for Strictly, it’s her,” the producer states. “There’s something she has on screen—a mix of vulnerability and confidence—that everyone just falls in love with.”

Willis impressed during recent chemistry tests and auditions. Her experience in prime-time Saturday entertainment shines through: she boosted The Voice UK viewership by two million after taking over in 2014. She has sharpened live presenting skills on Big Brother and substitute appearances on This Morning.

“She is one of the most determined professionals I’ve ever worked with,” the producer adds. “Her track record shows she joins shows during tough times and delivers results.”

Appeal to Younger Audiences

Willis attracts the younger demographic Strictly seeks, with two million Instagram followers fueled by projects like Netflix’s Love Is Blind UK. She posts family updates with husband Matt Willis of Busted and their three children, plus partnerships with brands like Marks & Spencer.

BBC decision-makers prioritize social media reach, as seen in recent professional dancer selections. Willis enjoys strong industry support, evident at her lively 50th birthday celebration in March at a historic courthouse, attended by peers including Rylan Clark, her This Morning co-host and potential Strictly partner.

Intense Audition Process

Nine candidates underwent full dress rehearsals at a secret London venue with judges and a live band. Zoe Ball, former It Takes Two host, confirmed she missed out. On her Dig It podcast with Jo Whiley, Ball shared: “I didn’t get it, but it’s OK… I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days.”

She added positively: “If [it’s] who I think has got it, we’re in safe hands and our new hosts are going to be fabulous. I’m so thrilled for them.”

Sources note emotional reactions among rejects. One prominent contender, an early favorite, has been distraught, convinced the role was secure. Paired in mix-and-match tests, not all meshed on screen despite BBC preferences.

Dancer Overhaul and Scandals

Strictly recently confirmed returning professionals after axing several, including Nadiya Bychkova, Karen Hauer, Michelle Tsiakkas, Luba Mushtuk, and Gorka Marquez. This follows turbulent seasons marked by controversies.

Amanda Abbington alleged abusive rehearsals with partner Giovanni Pernice, claims he denies. Graziano di Prima exited after video showed him kicking Love Island’s Zara McDermott in practice. Wynne Evans lost his BBC Wales breakfast role over inappropriate language on the show. Jamie Borthwick faced dismissal from EastEnders for a slur during the competition.

These events underscore the pressure on producers to restore the show’s reputation with fresh leadership.
