At least 15 people were hospitalized Saturday following a possible boat explosion near North Miami Beach.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that just after 12:30 p.m., 25 units — including ocean rescue teams and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission — responded to reports of a possible vessel explosion near the Haulover Sandbar.

The Haulover Sandbar, west of Haulover Beach Marina, is a shallow boating area known for lively parties in North Miami Beach.

Upon arrival, crews discovered multiple patients and, given the scale of injuries and resources required, escalated the incident to a Level 2 Mass Casualty event. In total, 15 patients were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions are not yet known.
