Arrest of church elder caught on digital camera; accused of stealing $250K from church donations

A Channel 2 Motion Information digital camera captured unique footage of a former church elder’s arrest Friday in LaGrange.

Particulars from the investigation LIVE on Channel 2 Motion Information at 5 p.m.

Investigators mentioned Howard Lester is accused of stealing round $250,000, largely donations from the church’s banking account, and utilizing it for private bills.

Lester instructed Channel 2’s Tom Regan whereas he was inside his home, off digital camera, that he had confessed to the congregation of the Broad Avenue Church of Christ that he stole cash from the account. He mentioned he was attempting to give you a plan to pay it again.

Whereas Channel 2 was at his house, police arrived and took him into custody. Our digital camera was rolling as police escorted him from his house.

He’s accused of stealing the cash over the course of a number of years.

Lester declined to make a remark when requested on digital camera.

“Mister Lester would you wish to say something about this?” Regan requested.

“No thanks,” Lester responded.
