Officers arrived at the scene after reports of the raid, which occurred between 8:25 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. Investigators believe the suspect pulled up in a small black vehicle before entering the store. He brandished the weapon, demanded cash, and escaped with a modest sum, according to a statement from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
The attack has been described as extremely rare for the area, but authorities are treating it with urgency due to its concerning nature. In response, police have boosted patrols around the retail park to enhance security and reassure the community.
Suspect Description and Investigation
The suspect stands approximately 6 feet tall and was dressed in a black hooded jacket, black trousers, trainers, and a mask obscuring his face. GMP has released a CCTV image to aid in identifying him as part of an ongoing inquiry.
Detective Inspector Louise Haslam of Swinton CID emphasized the rarity of such events while committing to a thorough probe. “While this will be worrying and concerning, this type of incident is extremely rare in Greater Manchester,” she stated. “We will have extra officers in the area today and the next couple of days as we continue our investigation and provide a reassuring presence. We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to please contact us.”
