The time is finally here: Alila Mayakoba is now open along Mexico’s dreamy Riviera Maya.

A points property we’ve been excited for since it was first announced last year, Alila Mayakoba is replacing what was previously a well-received Andaz resort. Last January, Hyatt said the Andaz would be closing for a yearlong renovation before announcing the rebrand under Alila, a brand big on sustainability, local culture and experiences.

Now open, Alila Mayakoba marks the brand’s entrance into Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 60-acre property sits slightly north of Playa del Carmen, and it boasts 182 rooms, suites and villas, including options with plunge pools and even multi-floor accommodations. If you really need space, the 4,574-square-foot presidential suite has three bedrooms, including one with a private terrace and hot tub.

There are six bars and restaurants on property, including the return of Casa Amte — the fine-dining restaurant that already existed when the hotel was an Andaz — plus a taqueria, an intimate chef’s table dining experience and a beach club serving local comfort food, among others.

For Alila, wellness is always front of mind, and Spa Alila offers treatments rooted in Mayan traditions. There’s also a modern fitness facility and an assortment of complimentary experiences like yoga and breath work classes, spiritual rituals and holistic fitness programs. Paid experiences include fire rituals, biking excursions and even a ceremony that will take you to a hidden cenote to connect with yourself and the earth.

Alila Mayakoba is the newest addition to the Mayakoba resort and residential complex, which is also home to Rosewood, Fairmont and Banyan Tree resorts. Outside of individual resort offerings, the area is home to an 18-hole golf course, a town square with restaurants, entertainment and shopping, and plenty of nature to explore.

How to book Alila Mayakoba

Low-season rates at Alila Mayakoba start around $600 per night, but can easily reach over $1,000 during peak season. As a World of Hyatt Category 6 property, award nights start at 21,000 points per night.

Right now, the resort has a special welcome offer for two guests that includes pre-arrival support to help you plan a seamless journey, round-trip airport transfers, the choice of an Ixchel Water Blessing or Tribal Soundscapes experience, and a hydrotherapy session for stays through Dec. 31. You can find more information here.
