To the editor: Columnist Mark Z. Barabak criticizes state Democrats for interrupting San Diego Assemblymember Carl DeMaio on the ground final week, saying he ought to be “handled with respect” (“By stooping to beat, Sacramento Democrats present their pettiness and vanity,” June 29). I’d disagree. Profitable an election doesn’t entitle you to respect. Being an honorable individual does. Their antics are what John Lewis known as “good bother.” Normalizing the actions of any individual that wins an election by displaying them respect is how we obtained in our present state of affairs.
