To the editor: It appears our present president believes that his place within the highest workplace within the nation entitles him to slap his title or desired branding on any constructing or company he needs. The newest is renaming the previous U.S. Institute of Peace to be the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace (“Trump is combating the Institute of Peace in courtroom. Now, his title is on the constructing,” Dec. 4). This removes the US from its title, although Congress created it to be unbiased and our tax {dollars} constructed the constructing, not President Trump.
This president fails to grasp that the buildings in our nation’s capital usually are not his, however all of ours; we the folks, we the taxpayers. And people particular monuments and buildings named after notable previous presidents — Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, and many others. — had been named in honor of their worthy contributions to our nation. These names had been earned and bestowed out of respect, not self-named through the presidents’ phrases of workplace out of self-promotion and aggrandizement.
Please, anybody in energy in Washington, cease this attention-craving president from rebranding all of our honest capital metropolis in his title. The doubtlessly unlawful destruction of the East Wing to make method for a brand new ballroom implies that something is feasible. What a horror if Washington turns into our model of “Pottersville,” which Mr. Potter renamed from Bedford Falls when George Bailey wasn’t round to cease him in “It’s a Fantastic Life.”
