A volcano in Ethiopia erupted for the primary time in almost 12,000 years, sending thick plumes of smoke as much as 9 miles into the sky. The Hayli Gubbi volcano, positioned about 500 miles northeast of Addis Ababa close to the Eritrean border, erupted on Sunday for a number of hours.
