2.5-magnitude earthquake strikes in Columbia

A small earthquake measuring about 2.5 in magnitude struck East Columbia late Monday afternoon, in accordance with the U.S. Geological Survey’s web site.

The quake struck at 5:17 p.m. USGS coordinates positioned its origin at Hopewell Park on Rustling Leaf, which is simply south of Lake Elkhorn within the Owen Brown neighborhood, north of Snowden River Parkway. The depth of the temblor was reported to be about 5 miles, making it a reasonably shallow shaker.

However residents in Columbia had been alarmed. The shaking about 2 1/2 miles west within the Clemens Crossing neighborhood in Hickory Ridge in West Columbia despatched many neighbors out onto the road to see what had simply occurred. However nothing appeared amiss, in accordance with one resident.

As of Monday afternoon, greater than 80 individuals had submitted studies to the USGS web site confirming that they felt the shaking.

Howard County Hearth and EMS mentioned on the social media platform X that as of 6 p.m. there have been no studies of great injury or any accidents.
