To the editor: I’m a bit confused concerning the timing of the Marine Corps showcase occasion at Camp Pendleton (“Interstate 5 closure brings gridlock, new battle between Trump, California,” Oct. 18). The Marine Corps’ precise 250th anniversary isn’t till Nov. 10, three weeks from now. It appears a bit unusual to stage a celebration of this magnitude so early, particularly as a result of it simply occurred to coincide with the “No Kings” marches.
So far as shutting down Interstate 5 goes, Gov. Gavin Newsom was proper in taking this motion. Taking pictures reside ammunition over the freeway isn’t enterprise as typical. Frequent sense would warn you of the risks of such an motion. The assertion by the White Home that that is secure merely can’t be true.

To the editor: I discover it ironic and poetic that shrapnel from the navy train struck a California Freeway Patrol automobile assigned to guard Vice President JD Vance (“Shrapnel fell onto CHP automobile throughout U.S. navy live-fire train over I-5, company says,” Oct. 19). Regardless of the protestations of freeway customers and the navy, Newsom selected to shut the freeway to keep away from the very factor that occurred. We ought to be grateful that we’ve a governor who places public security over public opinion.
