Video reveals second Nobel Peace Prize recipient Maria Corina Machado learns about honor: “I’m only one individual”

Venezuelan opposition chief Maria Corina Machado stated receiving the Nobel Peace Prize was “an achievement of an entire society.”

A video shared on social media reveals Kristian Berg Harpviken, the director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, calling Machado on Friday morning to tell her that she had been chosen for the coveted prize. He’s visibly emotional whereas sharing the information throughout a cellphone name with Machado earlier than it was introduced to the world.

“Oh my God. I’ve no phrases. Thanks a lot,” Machado could be heard saying throughout the name. “I hope you perceive this can be a motion, that is an achievement for a complete society. I’m only one individual; I actually don’t deserve this. Oh my God.”

Within the video, Harpviken tells Machado she was chosen for her “tireless work selling democratic rights for the individuals of Venezuela and for her wrestle to attain a simply and peaceable transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

An emotional Machado could be heard saying she was honored, humbled and grateful “on behalf of the Venezuelan individuals” to obtain the award.

“We aren’t there but,” she stated, in reference to bringing democracy to Venezuela. “We’re working very arduous to attain it however I’m certain we are going to prevail. That is actually the largest recognition to our those who actually deserve it. So, thanks very a lot!”

She added that it might take a very long time to consider what she had simply heard.

In a subsequent assertion on X, Machado stated, “This recognition of the wrestle of all Venezuelans is a lift to conclude our job: to beat Freedom.”

“We’re on the edge of victory and immediately, greater than ever, we rely on President Trump, the individuals of the US, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to attain Freedom and democracy,” she added. “I dedicate this prize to the struggling individuals of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive help of our trigger!”

Venezuela, which has been underneath an autocratic regime for many years, is at the moment led by President Nicolas Maduro. His election in 2024 was extensively dismissed as non-democratic and his management shouldn’t be acknowledged by the U.S. and lots of different nations.
