At a ceremony marking the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary, President Donald Trump sought to reassure service members affected by the continued authorities shutdown, pledging they’d obtain “each final penny” of their pay and promising an “across-the-board” increase as soon as the deadlock ends.

“I need you to know that regardless of the present Democrat-induced shutdown, we’ll get our servicemembers each final penny,” Trump stated. “Don’t be concerned about it, it is all coming,” he added.

The federal authorities shut down at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, halting pay for U.S. service members and lots of of 1000’s of different federal staff.

The Trump administration has positioned the blame squarely on Democrats for the federal government shutdown, which is anticipated to set off sweeping layoffs throughout the federal workforce.

Earlier than departing for Norfolk, Trump accused Democrats in a Reality Social publish Friday night of enabling the shutdown and making an attempt “to destroy this excellent celebration of the U.S. Navy’s Birthday.”
